Why Do We Celebrate National Impotency Month?

How to Observe National Impotency Month

  1. Get some exercise

Since erections involve circulating blood to the penis, anything that improves circulation will improve erectile function.

  2. Schedule a prostate exam

Many problems associated with ED originate in the prostate – for example, prostatitis ( enlarged prostate), or prostate cancer. Even if you think you’re too young to have to worry about it, keeping a proactive attitude toward prostate health will help you avoid problems like these in the future.

  3. Sexual activity

Making time for regular sexual activity now can guard against ED in the future. Research suggests that long periods without an erection deprives penile tissues of the oxygen-rich blood they need to stay strong and flexible.

Why National Impotency Month is Important

  1. Sexual health is physical health

Sexual health is an important, yet often overlooked, factor in overall wellbeing. Regular sex has demonstrated benefits to many aspects of physical health, including brain function, cardiovascular activity, and immune response.

  2. ED can warn of health risks

Erectile dysfunction is often the first warning sign of serious health concerns. It can be a symptom of afflictions such as heart disease, diabetes, or neurological disorders.

  3. Sexual health is emotional health

A satisfying sex life is an integral component to one’s emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life. Many men find that when they cannot perform sexually, their mood, confidence, or motivation can suffer. Sexual difficulties often strain intimate relationships as well.

Impotency, or erectile dysfunction (ED), affects millions of men and their intimate partners. The term refers to a chronic difficulty in getting or sustaining an erection sufficient for sexual activity. Over half of men report having experienced erectile dysfunction at some time or another. National Impotency Month was created to encourage awareness of this common affliction which is so often shrouded by taboo and secrecy.

Isdal Woman Day has been invented to provide us with a day so that we can pay tribute to and remember those who have died in disputed circumstances or mysteriously, especially people who have died in circumstances that have meant that their remains have not been able to be identified. This means that their fates are unknown.

Of course, dealing with the death of a loved one can be traumatic and incredibly upsetting. This is only made worse when you don’t know what has happened to the person you love. On this date, we spare a thought and pay tribute to all of the people who have died in mysterious circumstances, as well as their family members and loved ones who have been impacted by this.

History Of Isdal Woman Day

The reason why Isdal Woman Day takes place on this date is that it has been chosen to mark the anniversary of the discovery of the remains of a person who was found in 1970, in Norway, close to Bergen. This individual would become known as Isdal Woman. Before we tell you more about Isdal Woman Day, we will tell you more about what happened in 1970 when an unknown body was found in Norway, leading to this day being created.

Today, the case of the Isdal Woman is one of the most famous Cold War mysteries in the history of Norway. On the afternoon of the 29th of November in 1970, a man was hiking the foothills of the Ulriken north face with his two young daughters. This is an area that is known as Isdalen, which means Ice Valley.

It has also been called Death Valley in reference to the number of suicides that occurred here during the Middle Ages, and in more recent times, the hiking accidents. While they were working, they noticed a smell, which appeared to be something burning. One of the two young girls then found the charred body of a female, which was situated amongst some scree. Shocked and scared by this discovery, the father and his two daughters returned to town and notified the police.

A full-scale investigation was quickly launched by the police. They noticed that the woman had a supine position, with her hands clenched up by her stomach. They also noticed that there were no campfires in close proximity. Her clothes and the front of body had been burned severely, leaving her unrecognizable. Next to the body, they found a number of other items.

This included a ring, two earrings, a watch, a matchbox, a purse, nylon stockings, a woolen jumper, a plastic passport container, and a number of other items, including St. Hallvard likør, which is a low-cost liqueur, and two water bottles. A fur hat that they found had traces of petrol and they were burned paper traces around the body as well.

A few days after the discovery of the body, two suitcases were found at the railway station in Bergen, which belonged to the woman. In the lining of one, money was found. They also found a number of other items, including timetables, maps, clothes, wigs, shoes, and so on. However, as with the body, anything that could possibly identify the woman had been removed.

An autopsy was carried out and it was deemed that the female had passed away by a combination of poisoning by carbon monoxide and incapacitation by phenobarbital. As soot was found in her lungs, it indicated that she was alive when she was burned. Sleeping pills were found near her body, and it was determined she had also consumed a number of them as well.

Despite the fact that a big media case was launched and composite sketches were drawn to try and identify the woman, no one was ever able to. The authorities decided that she had ingested sleeping pills to commit suicide. However, a lot of people believe that she was murdered. A burial was held for her, with 16 members of the police force attending. The case has since been reopened in 2016, yet it remains unsolved and the identity of the woman is still unknown.

The purpose of Isdal Woman Day is to be a day of observation, highlighting cases such as the one mentioned above and inviting people to do their own research and investigation into this case and other cases that are similar. Death in Ice Valley, which is a Facebook Group, is responsible for designating the date for Isdal Woman Day. The same name has also been given to a series of podcasts that have been designed in order to try and unravel the mystery of Isdal Woman.

How to observe Isdal Woman Day

The best way to observe Isdal Woman Day is to learn about this case and indeed many others whereby people have not been identified. Some mysterious death cases that you can look into include the Peter Bergman case, the Oslo Plaza Woman case, and the Somerton Man case. You are encouraged to look into cases like this.

You will be able to find out about the investigations and what happened online with ease. It is certainly worth delving deeper and doing your own research. You will find that many people have created their own podcasts and blogs where they have posted information on specific cases.

It can also help to raise awareness for cases like this. You can post messages on social media or even start your own blog posts so that you can encourage other people to look into cases whereby the remains of a person have not been identified or a death is surrounded in mystery. It is an important thing to do. After all, there are families out there that do not know what has happened to their loved ones.

Aside from this, you may find that there have been charities set-up for individual cases and Just Giving pages in order to keep the investigations alive, so you may decide that you wish to donate or fundraise for these.

Chocolate is one of life’s greatest pleasures, providing hope in the darkness of an otherwise drab culinary experience. Chocolate didn’t find its way into the culinary repertoire of the western world until the Spanish learned of it from the Mayan people of Mesoamerica. From this simple beginning, it has spread throughout the world to be one of the most desired treats of all social and economic classes. Chocolates Day celebrates the history of this delicious treat, especially in one of its most popular form, a variety of chocolates.

History of Chocolates Day

Once they discovered chocolate, the Spanish actually kept the new substance to themselves for many years. In 1579 a Spanish vessel was attacked by English Pirates, finding it full of cocoa beans. Being unfamiliar with the delicious substance, they set fire to the vessel thinking they had conquered a vessel full of sheep droppings. The Spanish fell in love with the substance and were the first to start adding sugar to it.

Through all this time it was being consumed in much the same way as we consume hot chocolate or coffee today, so when did solid chocolates come about? In 1829 the cocoa press was invented, and with it came solid chocolate. This invention was intended to bring chocolate to the world, bringing it out of th exclusive province of the wealthy. Instead, it created a whole new type of chocolate and changed the nature of desserts forever.

In 1847 the first chocolate bar was invented, and it’s 1000-year history as a substance consumed only as a liquid came to an end. 1875 saw the creation of milk chocolate, and every innovation from there on out has gone towards making chocolate richer, creamier, and more delicious than ever. It is this initial bar and everything after that Chocolates Day celebrates.

How to celebrate Chocolates Day

The best way to celebrate Chocolates Day is to head out and buy yourself a bundle of your favorite chocolates. Whether it’s a simple chocolate bar from your local convenience store or a rich and flavorful fruit, cream, or caramel filled dainty, you’ll have every reason to indulge. Even better, put together a bundle of your favorite flavors and host a chocolates exchange at your work or school, or even just among your family and friends.

Lemon cream pie, not to be mistaken for lemon meringue pie (another laudable pie with its roots firmly embedded in citron heaven) is a delightful, sunny-colored treat that is sure to bring a certain brightness to anyone’s day. Lemon Cream Pie Day was established to celebrate this beautiful, sweet, and tangy treat and all those who prepare it for our consumption.

History of Lemon Cream Pie Day

We know it’s traditionally pumpkin pie season, but we just can’t quite let go of the pleasures of summer yet. While the pumpkin pie is rich with all the flavors and textures of autumn, the bright and vibrant colors and flavors of lemon crème pie are undeniably reminiscent of the lost days of summer. While lemon desserts have been popular since the Middle Ages, the delight that is whipped cream didn’t come to pass until the 16th century, and it was the marriage of these two that created the uncommonly delectable autumnal delight.

While we know that other pies have been around longer lemon cream pie is, without a doubt, one of the most popular and well-loved traditional treats. Sadly its citron base doesn’t help to make it particularly healthy, unless of course, you’re doing your best to avoid a nasty case of scurvy. That being said there are benefits to its fruit base, including the benefits to the liver, anti-oxidant properties, and aid in absorbing iron that comes from the lemon. Add all that together with being incredibly easy to make and there are lots of reasons why Lemon Cream Pie Day came to pass.

How To Celebrate Lemon Cream Pie Day

If there’s one place that lemon cream pie can be found at any time, it’s at a traditional greasy spoon diner. Sure they have all those other flavors, but none of them can compare to the delight that is a slice of sunny lemon cream pie. So a great way to celebrate lemon cream pie day is by popping into your favorite roadside dive and ordering up a slice! Of course, if you’re more adventurous you could always try making one yourself. Recipes come in a range of simple, out-of-the-box varieties all the way up to a more refined, elegant variety you might find at high-end restaurants.

FAQs National Lemon Cream Pie Day 2021

National Lemon Cream Pie Day FAQs

What is the origin of lemon meringue pie?

Food historian Becky Diamond refers Philadelphia chef Elizabeth Goodfellow as “the mother of lemon meringue pie.” Lemon pudding was considered one of Goodfellow’s signature creations.

Where do you store lemon meringue pie?

Keep it in the refrigerator. Lemon meringue pie should always be chilled before serving. Make sure the pie is on a top shelf to prevent other items in the refrigerator from spilling or dripping on the pie.

Why is my lemon meringue pie crust soggy?

Try placing the pie in the bottom half of the oven so that the pie crust is closer to the direct heat of the oven. Also use a glass plate to bake faster.

What is National Lemon Cream Pie Day?

We hope your sweet tooth is ready to celebrate National Lemon Cream Pie Day on November 29. (Today we commonly call this lemon meringue pie.) Although this time of year is more typically associated with pumpkin pie, we’ll take any excuse to celebrate any kind of pie—especially a pie that’s been around this long.

History of National Lemon Cream Pie Day

Food historians believe lemon desserts have been around since the Middle Ages! Whipped cream, on the other hand, is a relative newcomer: it didn’t show up until the 16th century. It first appeared in recipes in Italy in the mid 1500s and then traveled to France and showed up in recipes there just after 1600. Somewhere between then and now, someone had the brilliant idea to marry them together in a way that’s basically sunshine baked into a pie dish.

While lemon custards, puddings, and pies have been made since Medieval times, meringue was perfected in the 17th century. Lemon meringue pie, as it is known today, is a 19th-century product. The earliest recorded recipe was attributed to Alexander Frehse, a Swiss baker from Romandy.

Travel writer Larissa Milne credits chef/entrepreneur Elizabeth Goodfellow for this pie. According to noted food historian William Woys Weaver, Goodfellow was “one of the most creative forces in American cookery during the early nineteenth century.” Her shop was unique. Unlike the many bakeries that supplied bread and daily baked goods, Goodfellow’s pastry shop provided elegant cakes, pies and sweets for Philadelphia’s high society parties.

While known for many treats, including jumbles (an early version of sugar cookies) and queen’s cakes, and individual spiced cakes flavored with brandy and madeira, her most lasting legacy is the advent of lemon meringue pie.

Food historian Becky Diamond refers to Goodfellow as “the mother of lemon meringue pie.” Lemon pudding was considered one of Goodfellow’s signature creations; she is credited with several varieties, whether served alone, or in a pastry crust as a “pie.” Lemons were a delicacy in the early 1800s, but readily available in a busy port such as Philadelphia.

Epilepsy is a poorly understood condition, despite the fact that it is the 4th most common neurological disease. Statistics show that 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. Although epilepsy is prevalent, public awareness is low, and many people are unaware of the symptoms and signs of epilepsy and how it impacts sufferers.

November is Epilepsy Awareness Month. The aim of this campaign is to get people talking about epilepsy and raise awareness of a condition that affects thousands of people across the world.

The reality is that epilepsy can affect anyone, and learning about epilepsy and Epilepsy Awareness Month equips people with the knowledge and insight to support campaigns and assist those who display symptoms of seizures.

Epilepsy can impact anyone, and there are currently over 3.4 million people living with epilepsy in the US alone. Globally, epilepsy is considered the most common severe brain disorder by the World Health Organization.

History of Epilepsy Awareness Month

Epilepsy Awareness Month has been celebrated since 1969, and in 2003, the US Congress confirmed that November would be Epilepsy Awareness Month. The campaign has grown rapidly and is now celebrated across the world.

Initially launched to enable people to understand more about the condition and how it affects day to day life, more recently, the campaign has focused on preventing discrimination and eliminating myths and perceptions that permeate public thinking.

Over the years, more and more organizations have signed up to support Epilepsy Awareness Month, and this trend looks set to continue.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition, which is characterized by seizures, which cause involuntary movements, shaking, confusion and anxiety. Seizures vary, and coming across somebody who is having a seizure can be terrifying, especially for those with limited knowledge about epilepsy. This is why campaigns like Epilepsy Awareness Month are so important.

How to celebrate and get involved: What you can do.

There are myriad ways to lend support to Epilepsy Awareness Month. Events take place all over the world to raise awareness of epilepsy and generate funds for charities and organizations that support epilepsy sufferers.

From sponsored walks and bake sales to dress-down days at work, there are plenty of ways individuals, communities, businesses, and schools can celebrate the event.

The color purple is also commonly associated with epilepsy, so wearing purple clothes and decorating rooms and public spaces with purple banners and balloons is also a great idea.

Another brilliant idea is to get involved in courses and workshops that provide information about the condition and basic first aid training. Many people wouldn’t know what to do if they came across a person having a seizure in the street, and one of the most crucial aspects of the campaign is to encourage the public to learn how to react in this scenario.

Cities, towns and small communities can celebrate Epilepsy Awareness Month by lighting up landmarks in purple. Social media is also an excellent platform for sharing and liking posts about epilepsy and generating a buzz around fundraising events.

Let’s face it, when you’re in a home after Thanksgiving the kitchen is all too often ‘No Plates, No Tables, No Service’. That’s why I always eat over the sink on Black Friday, why make more work?

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and the kitchen is an absolute wreck, covered from end to end with dinner and dining leftovers, and there isn’t a clean spot to prepare a meal.

What does all this mean? It’s time to eat over the sink, obviously! That’s how the concept of a sinkie was born, people who dine over the kitchen sink to save themselves the stress of cleaning.

History of Sinkie Day

founded in 1991, the IAPWDOTKS, or International Association of People Who Dine Over The Kitchen Sink, established Sinkie Day. What’s a Sinkie? One who occasionally dines over the kitchen sink, which we’re pretty sure includes most of the human population.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that the scope of being a Sinkie goes far beyond just eating over the sink, it includes those habits involved with getting a quick bite to eat.

If you eat off the dashboard of your car, drink milk straight from the carton, or eat straight out of the refrigerator (typically while putting the uneaten portion back) you’re a Sinkie.

Being a Sinkie isn’t about being lazy, it’s about enjoying the finer things in a way that doesn’t require the formality of a well-set table. Instead, you can grab that donut on the run, eat the hamburger off the dash of your car, or even grab your favorite snack and soda from the vending machine, it’s all OK for a Sinkie!

This, incidentally, is why Thanksgiving is a favored Sinkie holiday! You just grab a roll, slap some potatoes on it, dip the cold turkey in gravy, and put it in the roll! You can eat this over the sink or just head out on the run, convenience eating at its finest!

How to celebrate Sinkie Day

Celebrating Sinkie Day essentially involves letting your culinary hair down. Don’t stress over the formalities when you want to dine, a bite in time saves nine!

If you’re one of those who usually eat’s at the dinner table, or takes the time to make a ‘proper’ meal and goes hungry until you do? Sinkie Day is your day off, just grab what you want to eat and munch away, no one is going to judge you!

Why Do We Celebrate World Lewis Day?

How to Observe World Lewis Day

  1. Donate to the Australian Koala Foundation

The AKF is a non-profit and non-government organization dedicated to the conservation and effective management of the koala and its habitat. Visit their site to figure out how you can help make a difference.

  2. Plant eucalyptus

If you live in a koala inhabited area, plant eucalyptus in your yard to add another source of food. The recent Australian fires not only burned down the homes of hundreds of koalas, but also the leaves they need to survive. Planting gum trees gives your local koalas a fighting chance.

  3. Volunteer

Hundreds of koalas are still displaced due to the recent Australian bushfire. If you live in Australia, volunteer to help locate the furry marsupials and bring them to the nearest koala hospital.

Why World Lewis Day is Important

  1. It raises awareness

Prior to the viral video, very few people outside of Australia were aware of the roaring bushfires harming not only koalas, but also other wildlife and people. Because of Lewis, thousands are rushing to donate to the families and koalas who have lost their homes due to the devastating occurrence.

  2. It encourages people to volunteer

People living near Australia's recent fire zone are rushing to volunteer. Lewis' rescue, and his fight in the hospital, brought to light just how dangerous the conditions are for the hundreds of other koalas in need of help.

  3. It acknowledges a beautiful act of courage

Toni Doherty, the Australian grandmother seen in the viral video, used the shirt off her back in order to rescue Lewis, who had climbed up a tree to escape the flames. Toni put herself in danger and risked her own life in order to save the life of a small creature. She has inspired countless people to keep an eye out for local wildlife who may be in need of a rescue of their own.

National Home Care and Hospice Month in November is when we honor all professionals who work in the broad field of home care and hospice work – this includes physicians, nurses, aides, social workers, physical therapists, and so much more. There are four types of hospice care: routine home care, continuous home care, general inpatient care, and respite care. Each requires a different skillset and comes with its own emotional and physical demands. The professionals who perform these services often receive very little pay, yet are committed to helping patients live and pass away with dignity. This month is for them.

We’re all full of stories, each of us with our own tales to tell, but we never quite seem to find the time to make it happen, do we? There’s always too much to do today, the feeling isn’t right, the story just isn’t there, or we just don’t feel good enough.

Thoughts like these are why some of the most influential books in history never got written, and procrastination is the great killer of artistic expression. National Novel Writing Month, known as NaNoWriMo by its adherents is your opportunity to bring out your inner tales!

History of Novel Writing Month

Novel Writing Month brings your excuses to a halt by encouraging everyone to take this one month of the year to try their hand at the grand art of storytelling. 50,000 words in one month is the goal, a number that seems quite daunting until you realize that over a span of 30 days it’s just 1700 words a day. To put that into perspective, that’s about three times the length of this article!

Established in 1999, NaNoWriMo was July back then, and the heart of it was the magical city of San Francisco. That year there were only 21 people involved, and they were at the heart of a revolution, though perhaps not the heart of the one they imagined. Fifteen years later thousands of people all over the world are participating in this amazing event, resulting in volumes of creative expression unlike the world has ever seen.

NaNoWriMo has a thriving and supportive community of people who love getting together, physically and digitally, to support each other and offer encouragement and inspiration to drive the creative endeavor. At homes, restaurants, coffee shops, libraries, and schools all over the world, NaNoWriMo takes all these places by storm. You can pop into nanintoo.org and find yourself a local “write-in” near you to help you get your write on!

Obviously, whether you join these folks or not, the whole point of NaNoWriMo is writing. So dig an idea out of your head and start writing, and hold yourself to 1700 words a day throughout the entire month of November. Don’t worry about editing, rewriting, or any of the little fiddly things one does when finishing a novel, that all can wait until after you’re done. The goal now is to get 50,000 words down on the page by the end of the month!

Don’t let November go by without taking your greatest novel idea and turning it into a reality!

In French, the word parfait means “perfect”, and in American English, the term almost exclusively refers to a sort of delicious, frozen dessert. If your idea of perfection involves ice cream, then you’ll have little trouble understanding the connection with the name. And why not have a day devoted to creamy, delicious indulgence? Shouldn’t there be at least one day of the year where you can indulge in something so rich and celebrate rather than feeling guilty about it?

History of Parfait Day

The parfait itself dates back to 1894, but it would be a huge stretch of the imagination to think that the holiday celebrating these delicious frozen concoctions would go back all the way to their origins. In fact, the origins of Parfait Day are quite obscure, and we suggest that rather than breaking your head over the origins of parfait day, you should just go enjoy a parfait. After all, if we couldn’t dig up the history, you think you would be able to?

Celebrating Parfait Day

The most obvious way to celebrate Parfait Day is by making or eating a parfait. You can host a parfait party (all the more doable with our handy French parfait recipe which follows), get a job in an ice cream shop (if you’re more interested in making and serving parfaits than eating them), or just go out to someplace where they sell parfaits and buy the damn thing so you can indulge without putting in the effort of making it. In fact, the only legitimate ways to celebrate Parfait Day all involve parfaits. Go figure!

How to Make a Traditional French Parfait

In France, a parfait is a frozen dessert made from a base of simple syrup, egg, and cream. Parfaits contain enough alcohol, fat, or sugar that they can be made without the frequent stirring required for ice cream. In other parts of the world such as Canada, the US, and Japan, a parfait is either the traditional French dessert, or another variant (known as an “American parfait”) which combines parfait cream, ice cream, and sometimes flavored gelatins which are served in a clear glass with whipped cream and fresh or canned fruit.

You also get variants on this with chocolate and/or cookies, and it goes without saying that there have been a number of delicious iterations on the cookies n’cream theme. There’s also a variant which combines yogurt with granola and nuts or fresh fruits, which is common in North America. But in Britain, parfait can refer to a very fine meat paste (like the French pâté), which is most often made from liver and then flavored with liqueurs. So apparently the British think that parfaits are something totally different – goes to show that you can’t always assume that names of dishes are the same everywhere.

Anyway, it’d be a shame for you to allow Parfait Day to pass without actually indulging in a parfait, and since you may well be far more familiar with the American parfait over the original French version, let’s shake things up a bit. Yup, that’s right, this here is a recipe for the traditional coffee-flavored French parfait. So try it out to celebrate Parfait Day.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup sugar

4 eggs (room temperature)

1 cup whipping cream (must be very cold)

1 teaspoon coffee extract (or just use espresso or even instant coffee)

1 tablespoon vanilla sugar*

4 ounces ground praline**

1. Make a simple syrup by placing the sugar in a saucepan with two tablespoons of water and bringing it to a boil for two minutes.

2. Break the eggs into a mixing bowl and beat them. Pour the simple syrup in a steady, thin stream whilst continuing to beat the mixture. Add the coffee extract, and continue beating until the mixture has cooled and become very thick (this would take about 10 minutes).

3. Whip the cream until soft peaks form. Add the vanilla sugar, then continue whipping until it’s firm.

4. Fold the whipped cream into the whipped egg mixture, and the fold in the ground praline. Just keep folding things until everything is folded.

5. Carefully spoon the mixture into parfait glasses (this recipe should give you enough for six), cover, and freeze for at least four hours before serving.

6. Celebrate Parfait Day by eating parfaits. Call a few friends over, enjoy with your family, or simply hoard them all for yourself. The choice is yours.

*Vanilla sugar is commonly used in French desserts. It’s just vanilla-flavoured sugar, and you can either substitute using vanilla extract or make your own. To do that, split a vanilla bean several times and then put it in an airtight container with four cups of sugar. Keep it in a cool, dark place for several weeks. Congratulations, you now have vanilla-infused sugar.

** Praline is a popular dessert ingredient which contains candied almonds and hazelnuts which are ground finely to make a crunchy powder. You’ll need 3/4 cup hazelnuts, 3/4 cup blanched almonds, 1 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup of water. Bake the nuts for ten minutes or until they’re toasted, then make a caramel by stirring the sugar and water together and boiling until it becomes a light caramel color. Remove the caramel from the heat, stir in the toasted nuts, and then spread the mixture on a cookie sheet to cool. Then, once it’s cooled, break up the pieces and grind them smoothly. You now have ground praline.

In countries all over the world, new people have travelled from their points of origin the inhabit land that previously belonged to others. While we call the Americas the “New World”, the culture and history of that country was anything but new when it was first discovered by Europeans.

The relations between their new neighbors (who quickly made themselves unwelcome) were tenuous and then tumultuous, until the culture of the country’s first inhabitants were nearly forgotten. Native American Heritage Month honors those who remain and serves as a reminder that the culture is far from dead, it’s still alive and breathing in the descendants of the First Americans.

History of Native American Heritage Month

The history of Native American Heritage Month goes back a surprisingly long time, even without considering the hundreds of years that Europeans have imposed themselves on the New World. The first inklings that such a day may come to pass occurred back in 1915 when Red Fox James, a Native American of the Blackfoot nation, took it upon himself to ride a horse from state to state seeking approval from 24 separate state governments for a day to honor the “American Indian”. In December of that year he presented it to the White House, apparently to no positive effect.

It was George H. W. Bush who officially took the steps to push forward a joint resolution that made November of 1990 the first official Native American Heritage Month. Multiple proclamations have been made since each year following 1994. Since then cultural sites, museums, and native tribal councils have organized events showcasing their rich and diverse culture and history so that it might be spread to the young and continue to thrive.

How to celebrate Native American Heritage Month

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month involves taking the time to recognize the rich diversities of the cultures that existed in America before it became the world power it is today. There are hundreds of tribes across the nation, but most people are only capable of naming a few, and even fewer are represented in the media of the day. If you live in the Americas, Native American Heritage Month is a great opportunity to research your local history and discover which tribes called the land you now live on home.

Then go on to find out what local tribal communities they are near you, and what sort of activities they present as part of their history during Native American Heritage Month. Visit, learn, and take it all in to honor this still living culture.

There are sequences that appear in nature time and time again, ones that seem to define the very basis of our reality and coordinate how everything comes together. One of these numbers is the Fibonacci sequence, and it can be found in the most surprising of places. Fibonacci Day commemorates this sequence and the man who brought it to our attention in 1202.

History of Fibonacci Day

Who’s the man? That would be Leonardo of Pisa, known today as Fibonacci. He was not the first to think of it however, just the first to bring it to the European world and bring awareness to its importance in the furthering of science. The sequence itself first appeared in Indian Mathematics, known as Virahanka numbers, and was connected with Sanskrit prosody. The number sequence is also tied to the golden ratio and the golden triangle, both of which appear again and again in nature, as does the sequence itself.

Where might you ask? It is in the most fundamental of things, from the petals of the yellow chamomile, the complex and seemingly random branching of a trees limbs, and these are just a few. Look deeper and you’ll find them within the pine cone and the shape of an unfurling fern, and in a truly strange one, it describes the family tree of bees and is deeply important to apiarists as a result. The sequence has also inspired songs, such as that by the illustrious Doctor Steel, simply called “Fibonacci Sequence”. It’s definitely worth taking the time to check out, and then listen to the rest of his stuff!

How to Celebrate Fibonacci Day

Celebrating Fibonacci Day is best done by studying and researching the Fibonacci sequence, and going out in nature and finding where it exists, which is everywhere! You can even look in your own home and yard and find places where the Fibonacci sequence structures the world around you. You can also take some time to research the great man himself, and all of those who have built off his work. There’s so much about the Fibonacci sequence that leads to fascinating discoveries and even just reading about it is a pure joy! So get out there on Fibonacci Day, listen to some great music, and learn a bit more about the world around you.

There is a rising movement in the world today, a movement that decries all acts of cruelty and unnecessary violence against our animal brethren. Its members range from those who merely won’t eat or wear anything made from animal flesh or skin, to those who actively campaign in every way against its continuation in any form. World Vegan Month celebrates them and the strides they’re making towards eliminating unnecessary cruelty to animals.

History of World Vegan Month

World Vegan Month was established in 1994 to commemorate the forward movement of the ideology, as well as the creation of The Vegan Society in the UK in November 50 years prior. Given the number of eaten dead, the date was selected to fall in line with Halloween and the Day of the Dead to honor those animals who had already passed under the unnecessary cause of supporting human life.

Vegans know there is a better way, and that the composition of the human body for being omnivores is something that, with time, can slowly be eliminated, rending our incisors as unnecessary as the appendix. All over the world there are celebrations and festivals being held that help bring together vegans and share diet tips and ways to replace their long lost meat. Bacon substitutes, sausage substitutes, even honey and butter substitutes have been devised so that they can embrace their idealism without having to give up the best of what was left behind.

In the early days of the Vegan movement these opportunities weren’t available, and they had to subsist on purely vegan options with no meat substitutes or anything to stand in for the foods that their contemporaries were consuming. The modern day allows Vegans to truly enjoy the broad range of foods the world has to offer, and substitutions for those that involve animal cruelty. A cruelty free world isn’t far away!

How to celebrate World Vegan Month

As we mentioned above, there are a ton of vegan options in the world, especially festivals and gathers where recipes and food secrets are exchanged. It goes a lot further than just food options too, everything from lipstick to deodorant has been guilty of containing animal products, and there was little on the shelf that wasn’t tested on animals. Now you can get educated on which ones are safe and which foods are the most delicious. Let World Vegan Month expand your palate and your sense of social responsibility!

Why Do We Celebrate National Alzheimer's Disease Month?

How to Observe National Alzheimer's Disease Month

  1. Take a memory walk

The Alzheimer's Association is sponsoring memory walks all over the country. Thousands of people come together to raise funds to support both the care of patients and the research for a cure. Wear blue if you have dementia, or purple if you've lost a loved one to the disease.

  2. Get screened

The National Memory Screening Program allows you to answer a list of questions to see if you or someone you know may potentially have Alzheimer's Disease. The test is a series of questions to measure your language skills, thinking ability, and intellectual functions. Taking the test is free. But it will not definitely tell you whether or not you have AD. Check with your doctor to get a thorough evaluation.

  3. Donate

Your dollars are critical in the search for a cure. Funding also helps develop new medications to slow the effects of the disease. Your support makes it all happen.

Why National Alzheimer's Disease Month is Important

  1. It's progressive

Alzheimer's Disease worsens over time and eventually the sufferer can no longer do routine tasks. During full progression, patients aren't sure where they are or may not be able to converse. When symptoms are fully apparent, people with AD may only live an average of eight years, but some can survive up to 20 years, depending on their overall health.

  2. It interferes with your memory

Alzheimer's (AD) attacks your memory of people, places, and things. The symptoms to look for include memory loss (especially short-term), trouble making plans and solving problems, confusion over times or places, and misplacing objects. AD patients also experience mood and personality changes that can devolve into someone being confused, suspicious, or even depressed.

  3. It encourages a routine

When someone has AD, having a routine is critical to helping the person manage their symptoms. As a caregiver, try to keep from overstimulating the person. Keep details to a minimum and speak calmly about one idea at a time. Most importantly, reassure your loved one that they are safe with you.

Alzheimer’s Disease may be one of the cruelest diseases because a sufferer seemingly “disappears” until the person they were — no longer exists. National Alzheimer’s Disease Month, each November, reminds us that over 5 million Americans suffer. Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), a form of dementia, impacts memory, thinking, and behavior. AD ranks as the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. and the most common form of dementia in 60-80% of all diagnosed cases. Learn the symptoms, treatments, and latest research, as well as how you can help.

Why Do We Celebrate PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month?

How to Observe PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month

  1. Host a healthy cooking demonstration

Let students make recipe suggestions and see if you can modify things like chili dogs to be healthier but full of flavor. If you do it at school, ask if the students can help put the event together and assist with food tastings. Have one student take photos and post your creations on Instagram or at least get pictures for the school yearbook.

  2. Host a “Get Off Your Apps” event

Since this month's theme is "Get Off Your Apps", the challenge is to find activities that are so much fun that kids will be happy to turn off their devices, at least for a little while. Set up a scavenger hunt in the backyard or sign your family up for Zumba in the school gym. Whatever you do, make it a fun family time.

  3. Get local businesses involved

Even if you don't have children at home, you can still participate in PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month. Contact businesses in your community who may have in-kind donations or actual financial contributions they can make to the PTA. Explain that the money helps the PTA continue its important advocacy work on behalf of schools, teachers, and children.

Why PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month is Important

  1. It advocates for America's children

It's hard to believe that the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has been in existence since 1897. Miraculously, it has kept up with the changing times by forming strong bonds with schools, students, and communities. PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month in November plays up the PTA's overall mission to help children lead well-balanced lives. The core goals of the organization are to be mindful of diversity, find areas of collaboration between schools and communities, as well as to maintain a commitment to keeping schoolchildren safe and respected.

  2. Its theme is "Get Off Your Apps"

“Get Off Your Apps” is a catchy theme to encourage increased physical activity in elementary and middle schools throughout November. The theme plays off a newly-developed mobile app that aids parents in promoting responsible digital use, while encouraging children to come out of their rooms, turn off their devices and get moving. There are built-in protections within the app that help parents not only manage their children’s screen time with designated step goals — but also to block access to other apps until those goals are met.

  3. It promotes healthy nutrition and a well-balanced lifestyle

The PTA promotes a Healthy Lifestyles Initiative that encourages schools to give children healthy, nutritional food and create time for physical activity. As part of the initiative, the PTA "ensures that all foods, beverages and snacks sold or served meet National School Nutrition Standards." Students should exercise regularly on campus and be able to access ongoing physical education to keep both minds and bodies fit. The PTA also holds school districts accountable for developing, implementing, and putting into practice district-wide wellness policies that provide students with a solid foundation for a lifetime of healthy living.

Back in the day, it wasn’t hard to lure children outdoors to play. But with cellphones, social media, video games and the like, more children are turning into couch potatoes — and at earlier ages. PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month takes place every November. This year’s theme is “Get Off Your Apps.” Let’s encourage children to turn off their devices and connect with family and friends through constructive play, family exercise, and physical education programs at school and at home.

Go For A Ride Day encourages you to get out into the world – hop on your bike, into your car, or simply get your walking boots out of storage and go on a trip. Don’t worry too much about where you’re going, just enjoy the journey. What with all of the cell phones and emails constantly intruding on our lives, we can all agree that everyone needs some time to just get away from it all and feel free every now and then. And what better way to do that then to just go for a ride!

History of Go for a Ride Day

November 22nd has seen various developments of the transportation industry since as early as 1904, making Go For a Ride Day a celebration of not only cars, but any mode of transportation that strikes your fancy. In 1904, a man named Mathias Pfatischer living in Philadephia, was the first American to patent the pioneer direct electricity and and interpole motor.

In 1927, another American inventor named Carl J. Eliason from Saynor, Wisconsin, acquired the patent for the snowmobile, which definitely drastically changed the lives of many of the inhabitants of Wisconsin for the better. In 1977, the the regular mass service had their trial run on the famed supersonic Concorde. As you can see, November 22nd has been an important day for various areas of the transportation industry.

How to celebrate Go for a Ride Day

The greatest thing about Go for a Ride Day is that there is no one, right way to celebrate it. At the end of the day, what’s being celebrated is the freedom that the development of transportation has afforded us, and this is what we should take care to enjoy on this day. What is your favorite mode of transportation? Depending on where you live in the world, you could spend this day traveling somewhere into the unknown by boat, plane, helicopter, car, motorcycle, rollerskates, skateboard, or even more old-fashioned modes of transport, like by horse, sleigh, or horse-drawn carriage.

How you travel doesn’t matter, as long as you celebrate the free spirit of the day. In fact, you may just want to put on your most comfortable shoes and go for a walk in the mountains or the countryside. Pack a lunch, take the family if you wish, and spend the day walking, talking and enjoying nature instead of answering endless phone calls and messages.

If you decide to go by car, fill up your tank and go someplace you haven’t gone before. Perhaps there is a lake some distance away from your town or city where you used to spend vacations as a child, that you haven’t been to in years? Go there, and spend part of the day enjoying nature and your childhood memories, maybe do a little fishing.

If you have a boat, use it to spend some time out on the peaceful water, just floating around and daydreaming. And if you live in a place where air tickets are relatively cheap, like Europe, for instance, take a one-day trip to the capital of another country! Walk the cobblestone streets, try the local specialties and enjoy being in an entirely new place. However you decide to celebrate Go for a Ride Day, make sure it is a celebration of freedom and the open road!

Why Do We Celebrate No-Shave November?

No-Shave November Activities

  1. Let your hair grow and flow, obviously

The rules of No-Shave November are easy to remember: Don't shave during the month and, instead, donate your typical monthly hair expenses to the cause.

  2. Set up your own fundraiser

The rules of No-Shave November are easy to remember: Don't shave during the month and, instead, donate your typical monthly hair expenses to the cause.

  3. Spread the word far and wide

It's great to live in an interconnected world. That's because you can support, celebrate and endorse No-Shave November on social media. Don't forget the hashtag: #NoShaveNovember

Why We Love No-Shave November

  1. Cancer touches everyone

Most people know someone who is suffering from cancer. Although treatment has improved over the decades, it remains one of the deadliest diseases in the world.

  2. Hair is in!

Trends come and go. Then they come back. One trend that came back around (with a vengeance) is facial hair. You can't throw a stick these days without hitting a dude with a bodacious beard or a 1970s-style mustache.

  3. It reminds us of things we don't normally think about

The clever idea behind No-Shave November is the idea that cancer patients often lose their hair. No-Shave November brings that into focus while raising money and awareness.

What is No-Shave November?

No-Shave November seeks to grow awareness — not to mention hair-ness — about cancer. The organizers want people to embrace their hair, which many cancer patients lose, and to let it grow — as the holiday’s originators say — “wild and free.” No-Shave November is a fun and creative way to remind folks that many of our friends and neighbors struggle every day with the disease and with efforts to fight it. Moreover, organizers also encourage participants to donate the money they’d normally spend on hair care to cancer support and educational organizations.

History of No-Shave November

No-Shave November was created in 2009, two years after the passing of Matthew Hill who struggled with colorectal cancer during the month of November in 2007. He and his family had already adopted the practice of not shaving during the month of November and donating the expenses typically used on razors and shaving cream to charities that support research into illnesses such as prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer among others.

The idea of using facial hair to create awareness during November started in 2003 in Australia with a group of friends who coined the term, “Movember,” in reference to how they will be growing out their mustaches and collecting money for mens’ health charities during that month. The Movember Foundation and No-Shave November are two separate entities, but they are both supporting and call for the same thing – stop shaving (or grow a mustache) during the month of November to spread awareness and donate to these types of charities.

In the past decade and a half that the two charities have been around they’ve been able to raise millions of dollars in support of charities that research prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer prevention.

Listicles Diabetic Eye Disease Month 2021

4 Reasons Why Diabetic Eye Disease Needs Our Attention

  1. It happens gradually

Diabetic retinopathy often goes unnoticed until symptoms are so severe that you are at risk of completely losing your vision.

  2. It's the result of diabetes

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness with 40-45 percent affected by diabetic retinopathy.

  3. It disproportionately affects people of color

Because people of different ethnic groups are prone to developing type 2 diabetes, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and Asian-Americans are collectively at higher risk for diabetic eye diseases.

  4. You can fight it with a healthy lifestyle

Prevention is key because taking positive steps like watching what you eat, regular exercise, and correctly taking your diabetes medicine can prevent or even delay any vision loss.

Diabetic Eye Disease Month focuses attention on keeping our eyes healthy. Each November, vision care organizations, physicians, ophthalmologists, and opticians share resources on how diabetes can decrease your sight. According to the National Eye Institute, over 7 million Americans are impacted by diabetic retinopathy, a condition involving chronic high blood sugar that damages the retina’s blood vessels. If you have diabetes, learn how to properly maintain your eyesight. If not, err on the side of caution and schedule your annual eye exam.

Listicles No-Shave November 2021

5 Hair-raising Facts About No-Shave November

  1. People have been shaving for ages

Before razors, people would remove unwanted hairs using two shells or other sharp tools to pluck the hairs out.

  2. Shaving's a "Great" idea

Macedonian king Alexander the Great was a strong proponent of shaving, because he appreciated how tidy it made everybody look.

  3. Shave and a haircut — at home?

According to some estimates, barbershops' share of shaving revenue dropped from 50 percent in the late 1800s to about 10 percent by 1939 due to the invention of personal electric and safety razors.

  4. Confucius predicted this

Confucians were discouraged from cutting hair, fingernails or beards, since Confucius himself said the body was a gift from our parents.

  5. Women haven't always been smooth-shaven

Western women began shaving their legs en masse right around the First World War when dress hemlines became shorter and swimsuits became more revealing.

Listicles National Baklava Day 2021

5 Steps To Beautiful Baklava (or Are We Nuts?)

  1. Step 1: Find your phyllo

Since the labor involved in hand-making phyllo dough is quite daunting, it makes sense to use prepared phyllo dough (available at most grocery stores), as long as you have at least 30 layers.

  2. Step 2: Start layering and brushing

Place a layer of phyllo dough in a large baking pan, brush it with melted butter, then add another layer, brush with butter, and repeat this process for several more layers.

  3. Step 3: Add nuts and more pastry

After building up several layers of butter-brushed phyllo, add a layer of finely-chopped nuts (walnuts, pistachios, and hazelnuts are most common), then continue layering pastry and brushing with melted butter, adding more nut layers as desired.

  4. Step 4: Cut your pieces

When all your layers are in place, before baking, cut the baklava into individual pieces; a parallelogram (lozenge) shape works well.

  5. Step 5: Bake, pour, and enjoy

Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes, until lightly browned, and while hot, pour honey or syrup liberally over the entire pan, allowing it to soak through all layers, and try to wait for it to cool slightly before eating.
